Bhubaneswar, Nov. 26 -- A Special Vigilance Court in Cuttack on Wednesday convicted a retired officer of State's school and mass education department on bribery charges and sentenced him to undergo four-year rigorous imprisonment, the Vigilance Directorate said in a statement.

"Ramakanta Sethy, Former Assistant Block Education Officer (Retired), office of BEO, Jajpur, who was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demanding and taking bribe from a School Teacher to regularise his absence period, was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years and fine", it informed.
