Bhubaneswar, Dec. 25 -- The Odisha Government has launched the "MMSBY- Installation of Smart Meters Phase-I" scheme across the state to provide smart meters free of cost to low-end electricity consumers with a contracted demand (CD) of up to and including 2 kW. The decision was approved by the State Cabinet on Wednesday night to ensure the speedy implementation of 100 percent smart metering in Odisha.

Under the scheme, eligible consumers will not have to pay any meter rent.
