Bhubaneswar, May 21 -- The Odisha Government has introduced specific rules granting 180 days of maternity leave to women government employees.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the proposal, effectively resolving longstanding issues faced by women employees in availing maternity leave.

As per the new rules, a woman government employee with fewer than two living children is entitled to up to 180 days of maternity leave.

Previously, there was ambiguity about the timeframe during which maternity leave could be availed. The newly framed rules clarify the conditions and periods under which the leave may be taken.
