Bhubaneswar, Sept. 24 -- A total of 18,305 people in Odisha are suffering from kidney ailments, including chronic kidney disease, State Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling told the Assembly in a written reply.
Despite this high caseload, government hospitals have a severe shortage of kidney transplant facilities. The SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack is the state's only government-run hospital equipped to perform kidney transplants.
A senior official noted that private and corporate hospitals are bearing the burden of transplant procedures due to this gap in government healthcare.
