Bhubaneswar, Jan. 8 -- On the nineteenth day of its ongoing Special Enforcement Drive, the Odisha Excise Department registered 279 cases, including 10 cases under the NDPS Act, and seized contraband worth Rs 1.44 crore in a single day.

According to official sources, 178 persons were arrested during the day-long operation. The department also seized 19 vehicles linked to various excise-related offences.

The enforcement action led to the seizure of 13,477 bulk litres of illicitly distilled liquor and 400 bulk litres of duty-paid liquor. Officials also recovered 66,050 bulk litres of fermented wash and 58,300 kg of gur wash.
