Bhubaneswar, Nov. 7 -- Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R. S. Gopalan has appealed to citizens, political parties, and candidates to observe digital restraint and uphold the provisions of Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, ahead of the Nuapada Assembly by-election scheduled for November 11.

The CEO on Friday issued detailed guidelines concerning the 48-hour silence period before the close of polling, a time meant to ensure transparency and a free, fair, and peaceful voting environment.

Gopalan emphasized that the silence period allows voters to make independent and impartial decisions without undue influence from political propaganda or inducements.
