Bhubaneswar, Dec. 16 -- A delegation of BJP MPs and MLAs from Odisha, led by union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, on Tuesday urged union Food, Consumer Affairs, and Public Distribution Minister Prahlad Joshi to increase the procurement of parboiled rice from 20 lakh metric tons to 25 lakh metric tons, citing the interests of the state's farmers.

The delegation met Minister Joshi in New Delhi and submitted a letter highlighting that for the 2024-25 Kharif and Rabi seasons, Odisha's total rice procurement has been raised from 50 lakh metric tons to 58 lakh metric tons.

This boost, they noted, is expected to strengthen the confidence of the state's farming community and ensure timely procurement operations.
