Bhubaneswar, Oct. 7 -- Tension gripped Berhampur in south Odisha after BJP leader and senior advocate Pitabas Panda was shot dead by two unidentified assailants near his residence at Brahmanagar under Baidyanathpur police station.
According to sources, Panda, a prominent lawyer and member of the Odisha Bar Council, was returning home on his two-wheeler from his office when two bike-borne assailants opened fire at him from close range and fled the scene.
After being hit, Panda reportedly fell from his vehicle and attempted to reach his house but collapsed on the street, just a few metres from his residence.
Locals immediately rushed him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead last night.
