Bhubaneswar, Feb. 10 -- In a significant judgment aimed at protecting children and ensuring justice for victims of sexual crimes, a special POCSO court in Odisha has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl.
The ADJ-cum-Special Court under the POCSO Act, Cuttack, on Monday convicted the accused, Somanath Mamu alias Somnath of the Nischintakoili police station area.
The court sentenced him to undergo 20 years' rigorous imprisonment under Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act, and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.
