Beed, Sept. 24 -- Pavan Kanwar, a close aide of OBC leader Professor Laxman Hake, was brutally attacked by a mob of 40-50 people in Beed.
The assault occurred last evening near Savargaon while Kanwar was dining at a roadside eatery with three associates. Eyewitnesses said a large group beat him with sticks and fists, leaving him seriously injured. His companions suffered minor injuries while attempting to intervene before the assailants fled the scene. Police later arrived at the spot.
The incident is viewed as a result of rising tensions between the Maratha and Other Backward Class (OBC) communities over the ongoing reservation dispute.
