Mumbai, Oct. 10 -- Other Backward Class (OBC) groups, led by Congress Legislative Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar, today organised a massive rally in Nagpur, demanding an increased OBC quota of 42 percent. The demonstration, held under the banner of the Sakal OBC Samaj, started at Yashwant Stadium and concluded at Samvidhan Chowk.
The protest was specifically directed against the state government's decision to implement a Government Resolution (GR) issued on September 2. This GR allows Marathas who can prove their Kunbi lineage to apply for OBC certificates, thereby enabling them to avail reservation benefits under the OBC category. The resolution was issued in response to the agitation led by Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil.
