London, Sept. 9 -- Nottingham Forest has dismissed head coach Nuno Espirito Santo after 21 months in charge, just three games into the new season.

Nuno's future had been in doubt for weeks after he acknowledged a breakdown in his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Talks over his successor are already underway, with former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou among the candidates.

In a statement released shortly after midnight, Forest thanked Nuno "for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground" and said he would "always hold a special place" in theclub's history.
