NSUI claims leaders detained during PM Modi's Bengaluru visit
Bengaluru, Aug. 10 -- Members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the Congress party's student wing, were allegedly detained by police here today during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the city.
Basavaraju AP, General Secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and incharge of the state NSUI, claimed that the organisation's office-bearers were placed under house arrest on suspicion they might protest "against the misuse of the Election Commission of India."
Terming the action "unacceptable in a democracy," Basavaraju wrote on X that the right to peaceful protest is enshrined in the Constitution and that "no government or police force has the authority to preemptively silence voices of dissent."
