Shillong, Aug. 1 -- The ruling National People's Party (NPP) in Meghalaya has condemned the arrest of Catholic nuns hailing from Kerala in Chhattisgarh on the charge of trafficking in human beings and religious conversion.
In a statement issued here on Friday, the NPP, an ally of the BJP, also called on the Chhattisgarh government to initiate an impartial judicial inquiry to hold those responsible accountable, irrespective of their affiliations.
"The NPP strongly condemns the recent harassment, physical assault, and wrongful arrest of two Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh on unfounded charges," NPP national working president James Sangma said.
