Ghaziabad, Sept. 20 -- The Ghaziabad Crime Branch gunned down dreaded criminal Balram Thakur, a close associate of the slain gangster Anil Dujana, in a high-voltage encounter on Saturday evening.
Thakur, who carried a bounty of Rs 50,000 on his head, was accused of demanding extortion worth Rs 75 lakh from two prominent businessmen just two days prior to the encounter.
According to Additional Police Commissioner Alok Priyadarshi, police received a tip-off that Thakur was roaming in a car in the Wave City police station area. When the police tried to intercept him, Thakur opened fire, firing nearly 10 rounds at the police.
Five bullets hit a police vehicle, and two policemen sustained injuries in the crossfire.
