Muzaffarnagar, Sept. 28 -- A dreaded criminal carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head was shot dead in an encounter with the police early this morning in the Mirapur police station area of Muzaffarnagar district.
Head Constable Kalu was also injured during the exchange of fire.
According to police officials, the criminal, identified as Naeem Qureshi, was involved in at least 36 serious criminal cases, including murder, robbery, extortion, and offenses under the Gangster Act.
He had long been a symbol of fear in western Uttar Pradesh, with cases registered against him in multiple districts.
Police received a tip-off that Naeem was planning a major criminal act.
