Shamli, Dec. 9 -- In a major crackdown on history sheeters in Uttar Pradesh, police in Shamli district shot dead a wanted criminal carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 during an encounter on Tuesday morning.

The accused, identified as Samaydeen, was surrounded by police when he opened fire, prompting retaliatory action.

According to officials, the encounter took place after the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UP - STF) and the local Shamli police received intelligence inputs about Samaydeen's presence in an isolated forest area of the Kandhla police station limits. Acting swiftly, multiple police teams cordoned off the area.
