Muzaffarnagar, Oct. 3 -- A wanted criminal carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head was shot dead in a late-night police encounter in the Parsoli forest area under Budhana police station limits today.
The deceased, identified as Mehtab, was a resident of Rasulpur in the Shamli district and had over 18 criminal cases registered against him, including charges of robbery, dacoity, and extortion.
Acting on a tip-off about Mehtab's presence in the forest, a team from Budhana police station cordoned off the area. When the police asked him to surrender, Mehtab opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. During the retaliatory firing, Mehtab sustained serious injuries.
