Thane, Dec. 31 -- Senior BJP leader and prominent North Indian face of the party, Kripashankar Singh, on Wednesday triggered a major political controversy by claiming that the Mahayuti alliance will form governments in all 29 municipal corporations, including Mira-Bhayander, and that the alliance would elect so many corporators that the mayor's post would go to a North Indian candidate.

Singh's statement has drawn sharp reactions from opposition parties, particularly the Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction), which has accused the BJP of insulting the Marathi identity.
