Kolkata, Oct. 10 -- The situation in the flood and landslide-ravaged hills of North Bengal showed further signs of improvement today, with no fresh casualties reported over the past 24 hours.
The official death toll from the calamity stood at 39 as of yesterday morning, according to figures compiled by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and district administrations in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri. The number remained unchanged today.
Officials said that restoration work of key infrastructure has gained significant momentum across the affected regions.
