Nagpur, Dec. 5 -- The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has ruled that no religion mandates the use of loudspeakers or other noise-generating devices for offering prayers, stating that no one has the right to disturb public peace in the name of religion.
A division bench of Justice Anil Pansare and Justice Raj Wakode made the observation while dismissing a petition filed by Syed Iqbal Ali, secretary of Masjid-e-Gousia in Gondia district.
The petitioner had sought permission for the installation of a loudspeaker at the mosque but was unable to cite any legal provision recognizing such a right.
