Kochi, Feb. 5 -- union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has clarified that there is no proposal to shut down the Ernakulam Loco Shed, assuring that the facility will instead be upgraded to meet future operational needs, including the maintenance of electric locomotives.
Responding to concerns raised by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a recent letter, the Minister stated that the Ernakulam Loco Shed continues to be crucial for Indian Railways.
He noted that the shed presently caters to the operational requirements of the Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad Railway Divisions by maintaining diesel locomotives and critical breakdown vehicles.
