Aizawl, Oct. 13 -- The first day of nomination filings for the upcoming bye-election to the Dampa Assembly constituency in Mizoram's Mamit district saw no candidates come forward, according to Malsawmzuala, the returning officer (RO) for the seat.
The by-poll, scheduled for November 11, was called following the death of Lalrintluanga Sailo,the sitting legislator from the Mizo National Front (MNF), on July 21.
With the first day of the nomination process having passed, the RO confirmed that potential candidates still have time to file nominations until October 21.
The scrutiny of the papers will take place on October 22, and the final date to withdraw nominations is October 24 by 3pm.
