Moscow, July 18 -- No migrants have arrived on the Greek island of Crete since the suspension of asylum application processing, Greek Minister of Migration and Asylum Thanos Plevris said on Friday.

On July 9, Greece suspended for three months the processing of asylum requests from migrants arriving by sea from North Africa amid a sharp increase in migration flows. Those who enter Greece despite the suspension will be detained and deported.

"From last Wednesday until today, there have been no arrivals [of migrants] to Crete. This may be due to several factors: the weather, our diplomatic efforts, and also the amendment [on the suspension]. Now, those who arrive, thanks to this amendment, will be held in custody," Plevris told parliament. ...
