Shillong, Dec. 11 -- Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday said that the frequent power shutdowns in various parts of the State is not load shedding but regulated shutdowns.

The regulated electrical shutdown is currently underway in Shillong, Jowai and Tura is aimed at implementing the Rs 900 crore Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), a critical initiative aimed at strengthening the power infrastructure in the state.

The RDSS involves the installation of approximately 2600 new transformers, replacement of 3,800 km of old wires, and the laying of 4300 km of new lines.
