Nanded, April 24 -- In a significant setback to a long-pending inter-state infrastructure initiative, the proposed Nanded-Bidar railway project has run into uncertainty after the Karnataka government declined to bear its share of the cost.

The development has drawn sharp criticism from former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Ashok Chavan, who termed the decision disappointing and contrary to the expectations of people in both states.

The issue came to light during a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) held in Nanded on April 24, where a progress report on railway infrastructure projects highlighted the matter.
