Mumbai, Dec. 26 -- Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) witnessed an encouraging start to commercial operations, recording an impressive surge in passenger load on its first day of scheduled services.

The sharp rise in traffic reflects strong traveller interest and a positive response from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Passenger load factors saw a marked increase with the commencement of full-fledged operations on Thursday.

On Wednesday, a day before scheduled services began, arrival loads stood at 71 per cent while departure loads were at 83 per cent.
