Navi Mumbai, Dec. 25 -- The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) started commercial operations on Thursday, marking the beginning of a new aviation chapter for Mumbai and adjoining regions.

The first arrivals - IndiGo flight 6E 460 from Bengaluru at 7:31 AM and Akasa Air flight QP 1831 from Delhi at 7:40 AM - were welcomed with a water cannon salute. Passengers from the inaugural flights were presented special gifts, aligning with Christmas celebrations.

Developed by the Adani Group and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 8, the airport will operate initially between 08:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs, with a cap of 24 scheduled departures daily.
