Patna, Oct. 6 -- In a landmark step, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today inaugurated the Patna Metro Rail Service, marking a new era in the state's infrastructure development.

Patna Metro operations began ahead of the assembly elections, most likely to be announced by this evening.

The Chief Minister flagged off the metro train from the ISBT Depot, officially launching the first phase of the project. He also became the first passenger of the Patna Metro, travelling from ISBT to Bhutnath via Zero Mile. Both Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with several cabinet ministers and senior officials, accompanied him during the ride.
