Nagpur, Nov. 4 -- Former Maharashtra Energy Minister and sitting MLA Dr Nitin Raut today demanded that the Election Commission of India take immediate action against Minister Ashish Shelar for his alleged communal remarks regarding duplicate Muslim votes in North Nagpur.

Reacting sharply to Shelar's statement, Dr Raut described it as a cheap political stunt aimed at diverting public attention from real issues. This accusation is not only political propaganda but also a deliberate attempt to divide society along religious lines and engage in pre-election communal appeasement, he said.

He pointed out that the preparation and verification of voter lists fall strictly under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission.
