Nagpur, Dec. 21 -- union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday welcomed the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) strong performance in the recent local body elections in Maharashtra, describing the outcome as a victory of party workers and public trust.

According to trends and results available so far, the BJP has emerged as the largest party in elections to municipal councils (Nagar Parishads) and Nagar Panchayats across the state.

Vote counting was held for elections in 288 local bodies, including 246 Nagar Parishads and 42 Nagar Panchayats.

Reacting to the results, Gadkari congratulated Maharashtra BJP president Ravindra Chavan, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and party workers for the performance.
