Nipah virus: Alert sounded for 3 Kerala districts
Thiruvananthapuram, July 4 -- Health Minister Veena George said today that an alert has been issued across three districts in Kerala following the detection of two Nipah virus cases, reviving fears of an outbreak that the state has battled in the past.
As the affected individuals are from Palakkad and Malappuram districts, alerts have been issued for Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Palakkad districts, the minister stated.
Preliminary tests conducted at the Malappuram and Kozhikode medical colleges detected the presence of Nipah virus, and the samples have been sent to the Virology Institute in Pune for confirmation.
Even before official confirmation, the minister directed that preventive measures be intensified as per established protocol.
