Kotla (Kangra), Dec. 7 -- A 19-year-old labourer died after a fire broke out in the temporary workers' quarters of a company engaged in the construction of the Pathankot-Mandi four-lane highway in Kotla area of Kangra district late on Saturday night. Five other workers managed to escape safely.

According to information, the company had set up temporary accommodation for its workers at Kaihrana in Kotla. The fire erupted suddenly while all labourers were asleep. The blaze spread rapidly, leaving little time for the workers to react.

Rohit Barla (19), a resident of Budhni in Ranchi district of Jharkhand, was unable to escape and died at the spot. The other five labourers present in the quarters managed to run out in time.
