Chennai, Jan. 3 -- Nine fishermen from Tamil Nadu were arrested by the Sri LankanNavy while fishing in the high seas on the Palk Straits late last night, even as ChiefMinister M K Stalin wrote to External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar urging to takesteps through diplomatic channels to secure their release and prevent recurring arrests.
The incident comes close on the heels of three fishermen each arrested by the LankanNavy on December 28 and 30, 2025 and 11 from Karaikal yesterday.
The fishermen from Kodiyakkari in Nagapattinam district had ventured into the sea forfishing last night when they were arrested for allegedly fishing in the Lankan territorialwaters after crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
