Kendrapara, Nov. 10 -- Forest personnel of the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary on Sunday arrested nine fishermen from Balasore district for allegedly fishing inside the restricted 'No-Fishing Zone'of the sanctuary.
Deputy Ranger Kapilendra Pradhan said the forest team during a surveillance operation spotted a trawler inside the core area of the sanctuary, around 10 km from the Madali river mouth.
The trawler was intercepted, and the fishermen were taken into custody for illegal fishing within the prohibited area.
During the operation, officials seized one GPS device, two VHF sets, one fish finder, ten trawling nets, and 29.5 quintals of fish from the fishermen.
