New Delhi, Aug. 27 -- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the media reports concerning the death of a Zimbabwean student, allegedly due to injuries sustained in an assault in Bathinda, Punjab.
The student, who was pursuing graduation at Guru Kashi University, reportedly died at AIIMS, Bathinda on August 21, 2025, following the attack, said the top rights body in a statement here.
According to reports, the victim was assaulted on August 13, 2025, following an altercation with a security guard. It is alleged that the guard, along with a group of accomplices, attacked the student. An FIR has reportedly been registered in connection with the incident.
