Meerut, Aug. 18 -- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken strict action against the toll collection agency, M/s Dharam Singh & Company, after an incident involving the assault on an army personnel by toll workers at the Bhuni Toll Plaza on the Meerut-Karnal Highway.
The agency has been slapped with a penalty of Rs 20 lakh, and NHAI has initiated proceedings to terminate its contract and bar it from participating in any future toll plaza auctions.
The incident occurred late Sunday night when toll workers allegedly tied a soldier to a pole and brutally beat him, keeping him restrained overnight. The reason behind the altercation remains under investigation
