Jammu, Aug. 26 -- Authorities in Jammu have issued a high alert after relentless rains wreaked havoc across the region, pushing rivers close to the danger mark. Vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway has been suspended following incidents of shooting stones.

The continuous downpour over the last 24 hours has created a flood-like situation in Jammu city and several other areas of the division, with water levels rising alarmingly in major rivers including Chenab, Tawi, Ujh, Ravi, Sahr Khad, and Basantar.

The Meteorological Department has forecast more heavy rainfall in the coming hours, heightening concerns of flash floods in low-lying areas.
