Shimla, Aug. 12 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has taken suo motu cognizance of a news report highlighting unsafe four-lane widening work on the Pathankot-Mandi National Highway-154 in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh.
In a press release issued today NGT spokesperson stated that unscientific slope cutting in the 18-km Thaanpuri-Parore stretch was carried out dangerously close to residential houses without constructing protective walls.
The project, awarded to Ridhi Sidhi Construction Company, has left steep vertical cuts alarmingly close to homes, forcing villagers to purchase tarpaulins to shield the exposed slopes.
