Agartala, Aug. 18 -- The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has entered into an agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati for modernising railway operations in the Northeast to ensure environmental sustainability, NFR officials said here today.

General Manager, NFR Chetan Kumar Srivastava and Director, IIT-Guwahati Prof Devendra Jalihal have signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in a simple ceremony last week with a commitment to carry out railway operations in an eco-sustainable manner.

Among the key initiatives under the agreement is the development of high-speed cameras capable of inspecting cargo train seals to detect tampering, an effort that promises to boost freight security and prevent pilferage. In the...
