Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 5 -- In a major boost to Kerala's fisheries sector, a regional centre of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) will be established in the State capital.

The announcement was made by union Cabinet Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh at an NFDB meeting held in Hyderabad. It was stated that all preliminary procedures for setting up the regional centre would be completed ahead of the Prime Minister's proposed visit to Thiruvananthapuram.

Since assuming office, Minister of State George Kurian has facilitated the implementation of projects worth over Rs1,000 crore in Kerala through the ministries under his charge, with a major share of the funds allocated for strengthening infrastructure in the fisheries sector.
