Chennai, Sept. 2 -- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today said the next generation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms will make the economy more transparent, ease compliance, and empower small businesses to grow.

Speaking at the 120th Foundation Day of City union Bank, Sitharaman said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently set up a task force for next-generation economic reforms with a clear mandate: simplify regulations, lower compliance costs, and create a stronger ecosystem for startups and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The Finance Minister said the GST Council will meet over the next two days to deliberate on reforming the tax regime.
