Shillong, Feb. 17 -- Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday said the New Shillong Township is being built as Meghalaya's engine of growth and powered by four pillars: tourism, sports & culture, education & skilling, and technology.
Replying to a short-duration discussion in the Assembly on ongoing developmental activities under New Shillong Township, Sangma said, Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya, is growing rapidly, bringing pressures like congestion, limited parking, and stressed water and drainage systems.
With the Shillong population now exceeding 5 lakhs, the Chief Minister said there is a need for a two-pronged approach to solve today's problems in Shillong and build tomorrow's opportunities in New Shillong.
