Guwahati, Dec. 20 -- The New Delhi-Sairang Rajdhani Express derailed in Assam's Nagaon district early Saturday after colliding with a herd of elephants, railway officials said.
The collision led to the derailment of the locomotive and five coaches of the train.
The accident occurred at around 2:17 am in the Jamunamukh-Kampur section under the Lumding Division of Northeast Frontier Railway, about 126 km from Guwahati.
No passenger was injured in the incident.
According to N F Railway press release, the loco pilot applied emergency brakes upon spotting the elephants on the track, but the animals still struck the train, causing the derailment. "The spot is not a designated elephant corridor," officials said.
