Dharamshala, Jan. 8 -- Former Dharamshala Mayor Devendra Jaggi on Thursday alleged that the recent changes made by the Centre to the MNREGA scheme were anti-poor, anti-labour and against the interests of farmers.
Addressing the media here, Jaggi said earlier Gram Sabhas enjoyed real authority under MNREGA, enabling villages to pass resolutions as per local needs and undertake small but essential works such as water conservation, field protection, rural roads, drainage and sewer repairs. This ensured immediate employment, strengthened the rural economy and helped curb migration.
