New Delhi, Oct. 16 -- The Dutch government has taken control of Nexperia, a Chinese-owned chip company based in the Netherlands, following pressure from Washington. The move spotlights how countries are being caught in the middle of the escalating US-China battle for tech dominance.

According to a CNN Business report, the company, headquartered in Nijmegen, produces lower-end chips for consumer electronics, automotive, and industrial applications, and runs facilities in Germany and the UK.

The Dutch government announced the takeover on Sunday. Nexperia said its CEO and shareholder, Zhang Xuezheng, had been suspended from his post following a court order.
