Kathmandu, Nov. 20 -- Nepal's National Security Council, chaired by its caretaker Prime Minister Sushila Karki, has recommended deploying Nepal Army troops to the national cabinet, to strengthen national security and to ensure that the upcoming March 5, 2026, parliamentary elections are conducted in a "free, fair, and fear-free" atmosphere.
The decision was taken at a council meeting today, ahead of the polls for the House of Representatives, reports state media.
In a statement, the council said the recommendation for the deployment of security forces was made under Article 266(1) of the Constitution, authorising the body to propose the mobilisation and control of the Nepal Army and advise on matters of national security and defence.
