Srinagar, Nov. 12 -- In a major crackdown against the banned organisation Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), police on Wednesday raided nearly 400 locations across Kashmir, targeting members and associates of the proscribed group.

JeI was declared an "unlawful association" on February 28, 2019, and in 2024, the union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) extended the ban under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, for another five years.

A police spokesman said the searches were based on credible intelligence inputs indicating attempts by JeI-linked elements to revive their activities under different fronts.
