Thiruvananthapuram, Oct. 13 -- The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has sought an explanation from the Director of the Kerala Scheduled Caste Development Department regarding the suspension of the gold medal scheme for Scheduled Caste students who secure A plus grades in all subjects in the SSLC examination.
The Commission has directed the Department to submit a detailed report within 30 days. The action came in response to a complaint filed by BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha State President Shajumon Vattakad, who pointed out that the scheme, which provided half-sovereign gold medals to meritorious SC students, has been inactive since 2019.
