Siliguri, Dec. 23 -- A national level rafter Lance Naik of 191 Artillery Regiment Raj Shekhar drowned on Tuesday after his raft while racing down the Teesta was stuck underneath by a sunken bridge.

After being struck Raj Shekhar toppled and fell into the turbulent stream near Tarkhola in between Rangpo and Teesta under Kalimpong district of West Bengal.

A team of 33 Trishakti of Eastern Command have been practicing since Monday on Teesta with rafts preparing to take part in a national level contest early next year.

However, Lance Naik Raj Shekhar, while racing down the Teesta this afternoon his raft struck an object underneath due to which he was flung into the stream and was swept away by the strong current.
